Trisomy 18

We would like to introduce you to Molly Kathryn Mueller.

Molly was born July 30th  at 35 weeks weighing in at  2.7 pounds. Not only does Molly fight her prematurity but she also has Trisomy 18. Trisomy 18 is a relatively common syndrome affecting approximately 1 out of 3,000 live births and only 5–10% will survive their first year of life. Read more about Trisomy 18 at  http://www.trisomy18.org

We were so touched by Molly’s strength and will that we have decided to feature her story for other parents to draw from.  Her mother, Briana Mueller, has shown unbelievable courage during this time to include posting Molly’s story, successes, and trials to help comfort those close to her and those that may be in a similar situation. You can visit Molly at  http://brianaandgarrick.blogspot.com/2008/08/molly-kathryn-mueller_24.html . Molly’s strength will console and provide a priceless gift to all parents of preemies. At only three pounds now, Molly is teaching us we must continue to educate about the struggles premature babies endure so one day prematurity and birth defects will be as preventable as smallpox. (Footnote: Molly tried very hard, but she was unable to continue her struggle. Her life story though, will continue on as we educate others about prematurity and the many conditions and hardships they endure.)

If you have an “Ambassador” you would like us to feature, please e-mail us at annas@annaspreemie.com. We will use your stories in our continued effort to educate prematurity awareness and prevention.

It makes us proud to see that we could surround Molly in comfort in our sleeper too!

"Molly did well again today with her open crib setting. We are so proud of her! Her latest weight is 2 lbs., 11.1 oz., so she is gaining slowly but surely. Again, way to go, Molly! Tonight she changed into her "Anna's Preemies" outfit--oh my goodness, if anyone ever has a baby in the NICU who has several "wires" (oxygen tube, feeding tube, leads for heart monitoring, etc.), these outfits are perfect. They velcro down the front, the arms, and the legs, so you don't have to go over the baby's head...pretty much, you don't have to disturb the baby or the wires. You can find these outfits and stores that sell them: http://www.annaspreemie.com/. Here is Molly Kathryn showing off this new style...her first time in "feet", too..."
